What is the internet?

The Internet is everywhere. It’s something that is available in most if not all public and private spaces. It can even fit in your pocket. The internet isn’t some all knowing being itself. It is a medium through which everyone around the world can look for what they need/like/want. It is where people can say what they want, find people who have the same thoughts as they do, and have anonymity. There are thousands of networks that are interconnected. The internet is becoming a source of blame for those who feel like it is negatively affecting them, but a source of wonder for those who want more. Can we blame the internet for these problems? It could be more that society has changed and the internet is something that wasn’t previously present for some living generations. It is something new to them, and new is scary (that is reasonable). How can a non living presence/technology be the one to blame for someone? Could the problem be the new ideal lifestyle in society we have where we just have to be doing things constantly. If we don’t, we’re considered lazy or unmotivated. Who has times to read multiple articles or search through books and books to find an answer that you can get immediately on Google. Is that not a benefit? I think the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” is quite ironic in it’s length considering that it discusses people having a harder time reading things that are longer. In doing the work to explain why it is like that now with the Internet, they wrote an article that I didn’t want to continue reading because of how long and repetitive it seemed. I love the internet, it is a source of entertainment, information, and opportunities. What scares me about the internet is what people can do with it. I don’t think of the internet as a problem in itself, but those who abuse it to cause harm are a problem. What’s scary is, how do you stop them? How can you stop them when the internet provides them complete anonymity?
